Behind The Ear Hearing Aids Offer Help For Less Money
Friday, January 11th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedThe most affordable type of hearing aids available these days are the ones that are designed to fit behind the wearer’s ear. They have an ear-mold that is designed to carry sound into the wearer’s ear canal. The majority of these behind the ear hearing aids offer digital sound reproduction which provides a high quality of clarity in the sounds being heard by the wearer. Depending on the wearer’s requirements the behind the ear hearing aids contain circuitry to enable automatic adjustments to the unit’s volume.
Behind the ear hearing aids usually have a small microphone built into the devise. Some of the earlier proto type behind the ear hearing aids had detached microphones which were often prone to picking up unwanted noises. The newer behind the ear hearing aids are extremely compact and are easy to maintain in top working order. The only daily maintenance required is to keep the device’s ear-mold clean so as to prevent any sound feedback.
To prevent possible damage to the circuitry used in behind the ear hearing aids it is fully enclosed in a plastic molded case that fits behind the ear. These behind the ear hearing aids are known to be very reliable and are much cheaper to buy than the ‘in the ear’ or ‘in the canal’ hearing aid devices. One impediment to behind the ear hearing aids is the fact they can be seen and because of this fact they are not all that popular compared to the newer ‘in the ear’ or ‘in the canal’ type units which can be hidden out of site to onlookers. For those people hard of hearing and who do not particularly worry about the appearance of their hearing aid device the benefits are that they can get good quality sound at a much lower cost.
Care And Maintenance Is Minimal
The only component of behind the ear hearing aids that need daily attention is the ear-mold. This is the small tube that extends from the device located behind the ear into the ear. This tube can be affected by a build up of earwax but can be easily cleaned. You can clean the tube by placing it in a cup of warm soapy water for about three minutes to remove the wax. The tube is then rinsed and any water remaining in the tube can be blown out. Just allow the tube to air dry before installing back on to the device.
Whilst behind the ear hearing aids are quite sturdy and robust you should still be careful with the device when ever handling it. For example when changing batteries, it is recommended that this is done on a soft surface because if the unit is dropped on a hard surface like a table or floor the inner electronics could be damaged. It is suggested that when the aid is removed at night, the external casing should be wiped with a soft cloth to help keep it clean and free from any body oils that may have accumulated.
